This service is part of a Complete Oral Exam (COE) but can also be completed during any visit to our office. A COE is similar to your physician’s physical exam but for your mouth - it’s where our team looks at all aspects of your gums, teeth, and surrounding structures.

When Should You Bring Your Child in for a Check-Up?

We strongly believe in protecting your child’s teeth from a young age. If they have teeth, they can get cavities – we recommend a check-up when your child gets all their teeth in: 12-18 months old. You can even start younger by bringing your youngster with you for your hygiene appointment so he/she will see that coming to Smith Family Dentistry is a fun place!

At Smith Family Dentistry we welcome everyone, no exceptions. This includes people who desire a bit of a different approach to Dentistry than is commonly done in most dental offices.

For people who want another option to X-rays because they are pregnant or want to reduce the number of X-rays they have we have the Cari-Vu scanner. The Cari-Vu scanner uses a light to scan teeth and not radiation. It’s not as effective as an X-ray but it’s the best alternative technology available and is really pretty amazing.

More natural products are available for those who wish to have them used during their visit with both a hygienist and dentist.

At Smith Family Dentistry we accept everyone with no exceptions. And that includes people with different desires for their filling material.

Composite

By far the most common filling material these days, composite fillings are “white” or tooth coloured and are a type of plastic.

Porcelain/Ceramic

Porcelain/ceramic inlays/onlays are a superior option that can last longer than composite fillings. They are sort of like little (tooth coloured) crowns for the filling.

Amalgam

This very strong filling material isn’t commonly used anymore, but can be an option at Smith Family Dentistry if you desire.

If you have a preference for which material you would like for your filling please notify a member of our team and you will be matched up with a provider who will fulfill your preferences.

Having dental treatments done can be scary and we want to make your experience at Smith Family Dentistry relaxing and pleasant.

That’s why we offer sedation dentistry. You can choose between light sedation with nitrous oxide or heavier sedation with IV sedation.

If you are a bit (or a lot!) nervous about a dental procedure, being sedated is the way to go. At Smith Family Dentistry, we always want to make sure you leave with a smile!
